From a young age I've been interested in the stone monument standing in the middle of our small village. Only into my late twenties did I finally come to know that one of my relatives, Gordon Carveth, a great-great uncle, was one of those names pressed into the monument. It was then, that I became fascinated with the story behind the stone statue and the men listed on it. The names tell the sad story of many small Canadian villages; those who offered their young men into the hell and mud of a battlefield far from home, and who never returned.
This blog will provide an ongoing biography of the men etched onto the Warsaw Cenotaph. These are the names of men of Dummer Township who lost their lives during World War I.
I look forward to viewers, and seek your comments and any insights or information you might have on any of the content of this page.
