Gordon William Gardener 3058893

Gordon William Gardener was born in Dummer Township on November 23rd 1893 to parents, Robert W.  Mary Gardener .

Gardener was called up for medical inspection to Peterborough on October 26th 1917 under the Military Service Act.  He a month shy of being 23 years old, single, and had no previous military experience.  He listed his occupation as farm labourer and his religion as Methodist.  He was 5 feet, 4 inches tall. He was described as having a fair complexion, light brown hair and grey eyes.   Gordon listed his father Robert, who was living in Norwood at the time, as his next of kin. Medical officials listed him as category A.2 and fit for military service.

Gardener reported to Barriefield Cap, Kingston on May 9th for training in the 1st Eastern Ontario Regiment Depot.  According to his military file he was granted leave a day later for the whole for the month of May.  He returned to Barriefield on the first of June and was again granted a month’s leave, though it is not certain as to why, it might have been for the spring planting on the farm.  It is not sure if Gordon returned to the training camp, but he did get married on August 27th 1918 to Emilia Howey of Lucknow, Ontario.  He was formerly discharged on September 8th 1918, before the war’s end, for reason of demobilization.
Gordon is recorded as living in Belmont-Methuen Township in 1921 with his wife Emilia and working as a Minister.  He died in 1958.
