John Ernest Gallaher 3060584


John Ernest Gallaher jr. was born on July 5th, 1892 in Dummer Township, Ontario. He was the son of John and Amelia (Dewert) Gallaher.

Gallaher was living in Warsaw, Ontario, when he was called to report under the Military Service Act for a medical inspection on October 26th 1917.  He was 25 years old, stood 5 feet, 5 ½ inches tall and weighed 135 pounds.  He had a dark complexion, hazel eyes and dark brown hair.   He stated his occupation as a farmer, religion as Methodist, and also declared that he had no previous military experience.  He was considered category A.2 by the medical board and fit for overseas service.  He reported to the 1st Eastern Ontario Depot Battalion at Barriefield Camp (Kingston) on June 27th 1918 for training.

Gallaher trained there for three weeks before a sprained ankle and infected contusion on his right heel resulted in a three week stay in Ongwanada Hospital in Kingston on July 17th –August 12th 1918.  He was stationed at Barriefield when the war ended and was formally discharged on December 30 1918 in Belleville, Ontario.

John Gallaher later married Ethel May Brown of Ashphodel Township in 1923.  He passed away on August 7, 1970 and was buried in Norwood Cemetery.
