Alexander Graham was born on January 01, 1897 in Warsaw, Ontario to parents Gavin and Annie Eliza (Crowe) Graham.  He grew up on West Peterboro St. in the village of Warsaw where his father was a merchant.

Graham moved from Warsaw sometime after 1911 and was living in Lakefield, Ontario, when he was called to report under the Military Service Act for a medical inspection on October 30th 1917.  He was 20 ½ years old, stood 5 feet, 6 ½ inches tall and weighed 122 pounds.  He had a dark complexion, blue eyes and brown hair.   He stated his occupation as a farmer, his religion as Presbyterian, and also declared that he had no previous military experience.  He was considered category A.2 by the medical board and fit for overseas service.

He reported to the 1st Eastern Ontario Depot Battalion at Barriefield Camp (Kingston) on May 10th 1918 for training.  He was selected as part of a draft that proceeded overseas on July 7th 1918.  He arrived in England aboard the S.S. Alexander remained at the camp in England for the duration of the war until departing for Canada on the 23rd of June 1919 and was formally discharged from service on July 4th.

Alexander would later move to Douro Township after the war to continue farming.  It was there that he married Helen Carter on October 23rd 1926.  Alexander Carter died in 1983 and is buried in Lakefield Cemetery.
