Pte. William J. Davis 195761

93rd Infantry Battalion
Regimental Number 195761

William John Davis was born in Havelock, Belmont Township on January 19th 1896 to parents Samuel and Harriet Davis.  At some point after, the family moved to Clarina in the northern part of Dummer Township, near Stoney Lake.

William enlisted into the 93rd Peterborough Battalion on February 21st 1916.  He was 20 years old, stood 5 feet 5 inches tall, and weighed 126 pounds.   He had a dark complexion, grey eyes, dark brown hair.  He was a member of the Church of England and a lumberman by occupation. He was single, had no previous military experience and was still living in Clarina at the time of enlistment.

Pte. Davis left with the Peterborough 93rd as they left the city and travelled to Barriefield Camp, Kingston for training.  He spent over four months training in the various aspects of war.  As the 93rd readied to sail overseas, the men were given one last medical inspection. William Davis was discharged from military service as being medically unfit on July 10 1916, five days before his battalion sailed for England.   Medial files indicate that he had an inguinal hernia prior to enlistment and refused an operation to correct it while at Barriefield.
